In Cities: Skylines, players take on the roles of a mayor and a town planner and are asked to build a full-fledged city that works. Not only do players have to plan road networks and districts. But they also have to juggle the many public services that are important to the well-being of their citizens.
The good news is that the game has a budget system that lets players change how much money they want to spend on each service. Which can help or hurt the coverage and capacity of those services. Here are the best services that players should consider giving a boost in Cities: Skylines.
Parks & Plazas
Parks help raise the value of nearby land and buildings by giving people something to do. By giving parks and plazas more money, they will be better taken care of and make people happier. This will make it possible to improve buildings and make more money.
Even so, increasing the park’s budget isn’t a big deal. As long as players are generous with where they put parks in the city and keep the budget at 100%, the parks should do their job just fine.
Fire Department
Putting a fire station in a certain neighborhood helps protect that area from fires. It also helps buildings level up because it raises the value of the land around them.
Most of the time, the budget for the fire department doesn’t need to go up if there are enough stations all over the city. The only time players might want to think again is when there is a big fire that can’t be put out in the city. If the fire department’s budget is temporarily increased, more fire trucks will be sent out from each station. This will help put out the fire faster.
Police Department
Crime rates go down in an area where there is a police station, and the value of the land goes up. Cities: Skylines doesn’t have a big problem with crime. So putting a few of these buildings around the city should be enough to keep things in order.
So, there’s usually no need to raise the budget for the police department. Even in places where there aren’t any stations, police cars will still be sent to emergencies and get there pretty quickly. To reduce response times, players only need to make sure that the roads are as empty as possible.
Garbage
In Cities: Skylines, trash can become a real problem if it piles up to the point where people get sick and buildings are abandoned. Players will soon learn that a good garbage service is a must if they want to keep a city running.
By putting more money into the garbage budget, more garbage trucks can be sent out to pick up trash and take it to a landfill or an incinerator. This may solve the problem, but adding more vehicles won’t help if the problem is caused by heavy traffic that slows down the player’s garbage trucks. Instead, players should try to fix any traffic problems before worrying about the budget.
Healthcare
Like police and fire departments, hospitals send out emergency vehicles to help sick people and bring them back to get care. They also raise the value of the land around them.
Again, there are better ways to fix health care problems than to spend more money. Players should keep industrial buildings away from residential ones to keep pollution from spreading. And they should make sure graveyards and trash dumps have enough space for dead bodies and trash. All of this will keep people from getting sick, and reducing traffic will help make sure that ambulances don’t get stuck in traffic jams.
Water & Sewage
People need to be able to get clean water and have a way to get rid of the water that isn’t so clean. Water pumping stations and sewage drain pipes are the way to go. And how much water they can handle at once depends on how much money they have.
Early on, it’s usually a good idea to spend less on water because there won’t be much need for it. As the city grows, players will need to add more pumps and spend more money to keep up with demand. Increasing the water budget does increase the amount of water that can be processed, but pumps and pipes are cheap. So it’s usually cheaper to just buy another one than to push the budget past 100%.
Education
Schools and universities are important for the player’s city to grow. These services teach people, giving them the skills they need to do harder and more complicated jobs. Educated workers help buildings level up, and if there aren’t enough of them, office and commercial buildings may be left empty because there aren’t enough people to work there.
Increasing the budget for education makes schools bigger. So they can serve more people who are eligible without having to build more buildings. This can be very helpful when trying to meet the needs of the city. Especially since building new high schools and universities can be very expensive.
Electricity
All of the city’s buildings and services must have power. If not, nothing will work, and lots of people will leave. Power is one of the most important services in Slope Game because of this.
Most reliable sources of power, like coal, oil, solar, and nuclear power plants, are very expensive. And players may not be able to build a new one when the demand calls for it. Increasing the electricity budget lets existing power plants produce more power. Which lets the player meet the power needs of their city on the spot. This buys them time until they can build another power plant and permanently increase the amount of electricity they make.
Transport Services
In Cities: Skylines, players can use more than just their cars to get around. There are a number of public transportation options as well. There are bus, metro, train, ship, and plane services. Which help people get around the city and make the roads less crowded.
When the player raises the transportation budget, more buses, metro, trains, ships, and planes run in a day. This increases their transport capacity and lets the player adjust each service to meet the needs of the city at the time. This is very important because many other services depend on roads to work well. Reducing traffic in the city as a whole will help everything run more smoothly and get people where they need to go faster.
